How body composition Analysis empowers your health goal

Many clients want to improve aesthetics, wellbeing or improve energy. The best approach is Incremental, targeted and measurable change.

Body composition measurement is a tool to monitor your performance and wellbeing goals.

The Inbody 770 breaks down your body into the 4-components:

  • total body water (intracellular water and extracellular water),

  • protein,

  • mineral and

  • body fat.

The ratio of these four components influences health and wellbeing and can differ in gender, age, and individual properties.

The Inbody 770 analyses your body’s components quantitatively to provide information on your body condition and make-up. This body composition analysis then provides a basis to assess physical activity and dietary requirements to optimise personal wellness.

If you aren’t measuring you are guessing

Body composition is beneficial to:

1.     Maintain body composition – maintain lean body weight to total weight

2.     Body recomposition – reducing weight but increase or maintain lean body weight

3.     Increase Lean body weight – seeking to increase overall muscle mass without increasing body fat.

Without an accurate measure of body composition, at the start and during a programme, it’s nearly impossible to understand what is happening based on scale weight alone.

Scale weight is a single metric. Understanding your body composition requires an examination of your body fat, muscles, water and minerals. Body composition testing has been the domain of professional athletes due to the expense and process required to assess body composition.

How the Inbody works

The Inbody 770 uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) which passes a low-level electrical current through the body to determine the composition of:

  • Lean mass (protein)

  • Minerals

  • Water

  • Fat.

Working with the Inbody gives you:

  • A clear understanding of your body composition

  • Ability to track your progress with all scans taken at Alchemy available on the Inbody App

  • Complimentary 15 minutes with one of our Melbourne Wellness health practitioners to discuss your body composition goals and ideas to change.

FAQ

How to prepare for your inbody scan

The best results are achieved when you:

  1. Are in a fasted state
  2. Avoid large meals prior to the scan
  3. Are in normal rested state
  4. Prior to your scan avoid:
    • intense exercise
    • sauna or spa
    • large meals
  5. Wear light comfortable clothing such as gym attire, or you can use on of our Alchemy robes.

Importantly, if you repeat your scan in the future, try to replcate the conditions such as clothing, time of day, level of fasting.

What happens during a scan

  1. If it is your first scan your height will be measured, and an ID will be created to link your scan to the Inbody app. You can use the app to compare previous scans and progress.
  2. Prior to the scan you will wipe your hands and feet to ensure a good connection to the Inbody scanners on your hands and feet.
  3. The scan takes 2 minutes. During this time you will stand on the Inbody 770, holding hand electrodes. It is best to avoid moving and talkign at thsi time. During the scan a low level electrical impulse will go through your body, this is not noticeable and is safe.
  4. You will receive an Inbody report.
  5. We will explain the report to you.
  6. If you are interested in a nutrition plan we have health practitioners available through Melbourne Wellness who provide a 15 minute complimentary consult. A detailed plan does require a longer consult. with your permission we can share the report with the practitioner prior to the consult.

How does the Inbody work?

The Inbody uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis BIA)to quantify body composition. BIA introduces an electrical current throughout the body. The level of impedance of the electrical current identifies the body composition component.

By segmenting the body into 5 components; 2 legs, 2 arms and trunk the impedance can be calculated seperately for each component. This enhances the accuracy of the BIA results.

Compared to many other BIA systems the Inbody does not use any emporical estimates to measure body composition. It measures you for you, not to an average population extraoplated to over your results.

How accurate is an Inbody scan?

The Inbody has been authorised by the Therapetic Goods Administration as a Type 2 device. This indicates it has proven to the TGA there is evidence to support the results derived.

The Inbody is used for medical research and has been validated thorugh research papers.

When shouldn't I do an Inbody scan?

  1. Pregnant women are advised to not do a scan
  2. If you have a pacemaker or defibrilator it is not advised

IT is worth noting that:

  • If you have implants these will be identifeid as body fat.
  • If you have any metal implants theese will be identified as lean body weight.

What does the Inbody measure?

The Inbody 770 breaks your body composition into 4 parts:

  • Total Body Water – both intracellular and extracellular water is measured.
  • Protein – the indication of lean body weigth represents cell nourishment. Protein increases as muscle mass increases.
  • Minerals – reflects the bone mineral content.
  • Body Fat Mass – includes visceral fat, subcutaneous fat and brown fat. Visceral fat indicators are an important identifier of health which is assessed in the report.
