ABC RADIO [Podcast] episode: Biohacking your way to your best work.
‘I do cryo usually once a month. I do it as part of a regular maintenance routine. i think it’s like some businesses give their staff a RDO which is a fantastic thing, a rest day. And, i think it’s really important to structure in recovery during your week or during your month.’ - Dianne McGrath, Mars One astronaut candidate
‘I think that the main impact for me is just the feeling of positivity about life, generally. Feeling happy. I think sometimes when you’ve got a lot on you can feel bogged down. And, so [cryo provided] a feeling of lightness, that things didn’t seem so insurmountable and that you can tackle difficult problems. Also, I do suffer from that sort of fuzzy feeling sometimes… Brain fog. That really lifted. And, it lasted.’ - Catherine Robson, entrepreneur / ANGEL INVESTOR / non-executive director
“It’s always hard to sleep after a game, so I’m experimenting with the cold. It’s the mental side of the cold that’s challenging, but it energises me and I love it.
I spend a lot more time with visualisation and mindfulness, but it’s recovery that’s a big factor in my game and I’m all about using the best technology and resources available to me.
The game is consistently changing and you have to make sure your body and mind are in a space where you can compete at an elite level.”
- Dyson Heppell, Captain of Essendon Football Club
“Collingwood star Jordan De Goey is out of a moon boot and spending hours in a hyperbaric chamber to be fit for the start of the season.
De Goey who escaped serious structural damage when he landed on his ankle in a training incident, has been pain free and walking normally since removing the boot.
He has regularly attended the hyperbaric chamber - normally only heard about in finals though clubs use them during the year - to speed up the recovery.”
CHANNEL 7’S HOUSE OF WELLNESS - SEASON 3, EPISODE 1:
“An incredible therapy… I’ve done Cryotherapy over the past year, a handful of times. Absolutely love it. My stress is reduced. I sleep better after a session. The inflammation in my body goes down, particularly after i go for a session after I’ve just done a really heavy workout. And, i find my muscle recovery is much quicker.” - Rachael Finch
Rachael Finch introduces Luke Darcy to Whole Body Cryotherapy at Alchemy Cryotherapy Centre.
“What about if I do get selected for Mars One, what are the health risks that astronauts face? What would my life look like?
Is the Dianne McGrath today going to be good enough – in a physical and mental sense? Will I be able to deal with that? I don’t know. And I realised that no, heck no, there’s no way I’d have been able to get into a spaceship at that point in time. I needed to become a totally different person. I had to change.
That’s when my bio-hacking journey started.”
- Dianne McGrath, Mars One Astronaut Candidate.
“… when it comes to health, I spend lavishly. I take lots of supplements, have a personal trainer and love exotic health treatments like whole body cryotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. I am not an elite athlete whose income is dependent on physical performance, so while the health treatments make me feel great, they are a bit of an indulgence.
However, there is an emerging understanding that consciously spending on things that bring happiness and satisfaction, rather than trying to spend less on everything all the time, results in superior financial outcomes.”
- Catherine Robson on ‘Why it's OK to buy yourself a little happiness’
“For years, I’ve been hearing anecdotal stories about how whole-body cryotherapy improves mood, boosts energy, and generally makes you feel better. So I decided to get involved. Now I’ve done more than 150 sessions and am a cryotherapy convert.
I’m lucky because I live close to Alchemy Cryotherapy (about $50/session USD), and I’ve become such good friends with the owners that I practically live there. The session itself takes three minutes, but we often spend much longer talking all things biohacking, productivity-boosting and how to generally kick butt in life.”
- Kirsty Hutton on ‘The Complete Guide to Using Cryotherapy to Reduce Inflammation’
CHANNEL 9’S THE AFL FOOTY SHOW 2018, EPISODE 13:
“We’ve actually been getting amongst it at Alchemy Cryo in South Yarra. It’s fantastic for reducing inflammation. Good for your mental health. It actually also helps reduce the ageing process.” - Dyson Heppell, Captain of Essendon Football Club.
Dyson Heppell gives the low-down on Cryotherapy. While Billy Brownless and Sam Newman Cryo for the first time, live on The AFL Footy Show.
“We get him into cryotherapy to increase his blood flow, get rid of oxidative stress, inflammation in the body. Especially after a big race weekend as well. It’s important for these guys to get in there. Get rid of all that stress out of their body. So it’s basically a recovery system for them to get straight back into training.”
- Josh Webb (1 Percent Performance) on training Andre Heimgartner (Professional Supercar Driver)
“Collingwood uses cryotherapy, stepping into a minus 130 degree chamber, to help recover for Richmond game.
It worked for Phillips, who produced the finest performance of his career to date, amassing a personal best 38 disposals, 11 contested possessions, nine marks and 409 metres gained.
And it worked for Collingwood…”
Pies freeze in recovery for Richmond:
“Collingwood has just three days to prepare for Sunday’s game. As part of their recovery from the ANZAC Day match, the players visited the Alchemy Cryotherapy Centre in South Yarra on Thursday where they were exposed to temperatures of -110 degrees in an effort to be at their best for the clash with the Tigers.”
“Nitel and her co-founders [of Alchemy Cryotherapy Centre] were ahead of the curve bringing flotation tanks to Australia, then cryotherapy.
In this week’s episode of success stories, Nitel talks with Catherine Robson about the compelling results of putting your body in a quick deep freeze, bootstrapping a startup and following stoic philosophy for business success.”
“Cryotherapy reduces inflammation and alleviates pain symptoms, and enhances athletic performance, immune function, sleep quality, metabolism, antioxidant activity, brain function - including focus, attention and mood - and collagen production,” says co-founder and chief creative officer of Alchemy Cryotherapy Centre Nitel Mimi (alchemycryo.com.au).
You can expect to feel the benefits immediately, including reduced inflammation, increased energy, elevated mood levels and improved sleep quality. However, the benefits are cumulative and best results are generally achieved with a series of treatments.”
